REAL LIFE NEWS: TERRY PRATCHETT’S UNFINISHED WORKS CRUSHED BY STEAMROLLER
by Hazed
The much-missed fantasy author Terry Pratchett left up to 10 incomplete novels when he died in March 2015, aged just 66.
Unfortunately we will never know what those stories were, because he did not want the unpublished work to be completed by anybody else, and left strict instructions on how they should be dealt with.
His wishes have now been carried out – and the hard drive containing his unfinished works has been well and truly destroyed, by being crushed by a steamroller at the Great Dorset Steam Fair.
The engine used was called Lord Jericho and it weighs six-and-a-half tonnes. It was driven over the hard drive several times, and then a concrete crusher was used to make absolutely sure the drive was completely dead.
The remaining pieces of the destroyed hard drive will go on display in the Salisbury Museum, in an exhibition about the author later this month.
While it’s fitting that Terry’s wishes have been carried out, I can’t help hoping that somebody took a back-up of the drive before it was steamrollered!
